The Chicago Breast & Lymphedema Symposium will identify, discuss and demonstrate complex breast reconstruction and lymphedema therapies within the framework of creating and maintaining multidisciplinary relationships.


This year, we will discuss the changing landscapes in breast reconstruction and innovations and therapies for lymphedema. Our program will feature videos and complex discussions from the experts as well as live demonstrations of lymphedema therapies for medical professionals and physicians alike.

The University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of 20.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. 

This course is approved for 20 continuing education hours for licensed therapists (PT, PTA, OT, or COTA) in Illinois, and nurses and other healthcare professionals will receive a Certificate of Participation.


 


The 2018 Chicago Breast and Lymphedema Symposium will be held at Ida Noyes Hall, a historic building on the University of Chicago campus in the heart of Hyde Park.


 


Learning Objectives:


1.   Describe the most appropriate therapies for breast cancer, breast reconstruction and lymphedema;


2.   Recognize optimal patients for pre-pectoral implant reconstruction;


3.   Identify multidisciplinary strategies available for addressing complex patient diagnoses;


4.   Select donor sites for autologous tissue reconstruction; 


5.   Determine the expected outcomes from treatment of lymphedema based on analyzed case studies and examples; 


6.   Relate how to perform various surgical treatments of lymphedema; 


7.   Describe the clinical implications and physiological impact of autologous breast reconstruction in terms of physical and occupational therapy in an effort to restore patient's functional mobility and quality of  life;


8.   Determine opportunities to work collaboratively in interprofessional teams to enhance the quality of patient care and clinical outcomes in the therapeutic areas of breast cancer, breast reconstruction and  lymphedema; and


9.   State how to apply knowledge of different patient diagnoses to own clinical practices.
